SmartThings has a significant leg up on Hubitat in terms of resources and experience. Hubitat was born out of a frustration for the short comings SmartThings had, but the people that did it, I believe, did so prematurely. There is A LOT of misinformation going on around right now about SmartThings. The whole project is being spearheaded by WebCoRE developer Adrain Calamaliu whom is now a lead developer at SmartThings. On top of the Rules API, SmartThings has already demoed last fall a fully functional GUI Rules Engine using he Rules API built off the WebCoRE framework. There really is no limit now and frankly, I'm pretty excited about it. You can use Visual Studio to create your own webpages to run on tablets in your house to control everything. In a future release of the API, local execution of rules on the SmartThings hub will be supported, making rules a great choice for those looking to create fast, stable and secure automations.'īy breaking off the Groovy platform and moving to a RESTful services API, developers can now use any development language or platform they want.
'The Rules API enables the developer to create automations, both simple and complex, that can operate on the SmartThings cloud. You can use it right now all you want and developers are actively developing on it now. The future platform is already live and functional.
